Three ways to support a streamer
Twitch has two built-in options: Bits, a virtual currency you buy on Twitch and use to cheer in chat, and a monthly channel subscription, which you can also gift to another viewer. Twitch sets the prices, terms and the share that goes to the creator. Many streamers also share an external donation link: you choose the amount and pay on the streamer’s own page, outside Twitch. These three routes are separate and do not replace each other.
Donate through the streamer’s link
Look for the link in the panels below the video, often titled ‘Support’, ‘Tip’ or ‘Donate’, or ask for the streamer’s chat command, for example !donate. Open the page and check that the name and photo match the channel. Choose an amount, add a message if you like and select one of the payment methods offered. Wait for the confirmation before paying again: a missing alert on stream does not mean the payment failed.
Donating on Twitch from your phone
In the Twitch app, a channel’s panels sit with the channel information. Tap the donation link; if the in-app browser cannot complete the payment, open the same link in your usual browser. For Bits and subscriptions bought in the app, the price can depend on your device and app store: always check the amount shown before you confirm.
Safety: what to check
Only use a link shared from the streamer’s official channel or by its moderators. Never post bank codes or passwords in chat. The name and message you enter may appear on screen, so leave out personal details. A donation is voluntary and usually comes with no reward or subscriber benefits. Keep the payment confirmation in case you have a question later.
For streamers: offer a donation link
Create your DonoLink page, finish the Stripe connection and copy your public link from the dashboard. On Twitch, turn on ‘Edit Panels’ below the video, add a ‘Support the stream’ panel and paste the link. Set up a chat command that returns the same link. DonoLink normally charges a 3.5% platform fee per donation; Stripe separately charges processing fees to the connected account. There is no subscription.
Show donations during the stream
Add the alerts source from your dashboard to OBS and send a test alert: it checks picture and sound, not a payment. You can filter messages and choose a minimum amount for display. Bits and Twitch subscriptions can also trigger alerts through the Twitch connection, but they remain Twitch payments and do not count as DonoLink donations.
