Refunds and disputes: what you need to know

Fear of chargebacks is one of the reasons many streamers leave PayPal. No payment method removes that risk entirely, but understanding it helps you reduce it. This guide explains how refunds and disputes work with DonoLink and Stripe.

Handle a disputed donation

  1. Read Stripe's notification and the donation details.
  2. Gather the context: message, date and any conversations.
  3. Respond to the dispute within Stripe's deadlines.
  4. Check the donation status in your DonoLink dashboard.

Refund or dispute: the difference

A refund is your decision, for example after a donation made by mistake. A dispute, also called a chargeback, is opened by the cardholder with their bank. The bank reviews the case and may take the funds back.

What happens with DonoLink

Because the payment is a direct charge on your connected account, your Stripe account is the one affected. Stripe notifies you and you can submit evidence under its rules. Stripe may charge a dispute fee under its terms. In DonoLink, the donation moves to refunded status and drops out of your totals.

Reduce the risk

Some good practice:

What about the alert that already played?

An alert shown live cannot be undone, but the disputed donation no longer counts towards your goal or income. A donation is therefore not final income until the dispute window has passed.
